May, 19. XVI International Likhachev Scientific Conference, the world’s largest forum of humanitarian knowledge, is opened in SPbUHSS.

The Conference Subject is “Contemporary Global Challenges and National Interests”.

The Conference has been held in St. Petersburg since 1993 on the initiative of Academician Dmitry Likhachev. It is called “Likhachev Conference” since 2001 subject to Decree of May 23, 2001 № 587 of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir V. Putin.

Today the Conference is the largest world annual scientific humanitarian forum. Every year traditionally more than 1500 people take part in it. More than 160 reports by distinguished scientists, state and public figures from 28 countries from Canada and USA to India and China were presented this year.

The Plenary Sessions are moderated by:

Mr. Gennady Gatilov – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (Russia);

Prof. Dr. Piotr Dutkiewicz – Director of the Center for Governance and Public Policy at Carleton University, Doctor of Philosophy (Canada);

Prof. Dr. Alexander S. Zapesotsky – SPbUHSS Rector, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Culturological Studies, Professor, Chairman of the Executive Committee of St. Petersburg Intelligencia;

Prof. Dr. Valery A. Chereshnev – Chairman of the Committee at the State Duma of the Russian Federation on Science and High Technologies, Director of the Institute of Immunology and Physiology, Ural Department of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, SPbUHSS Honorary Doctor.
